More than 80 New Works Reveal the Skill and Invention of These Directional Artists

New York, NY (June 23, 2010) — Think Again: New Latin American Jewelry, presented by the Museum of Arts and Design from October 12, 2010 through January 8, 2011, will feature the latest trends and movements through works by 50 jewelry makers, representing some 23 Latin American countries. Among the artists included are the Brazilians Mirla Fernandes, Dionea Rocha Watt, and Claudia Cucchi; Valentina Rosenthal from Chile; the Argentinians Elisa Gulminelli, Francisca Kweitel, and Silvina Romero; Jorge Manilla and Eduardo Graue from Mexico; and Miguel Luciano from Puerto Rico. The show has been guest-curated by the Netherlands-based, Mexican-born architect Valeria Vallarta Siemelink, who is also the president of the Otro Diseño Foundation for Cultural Cooperation and Development, which organized the show..."

october 16 - november 30, 2009. the second edition of TALENT will open its doors at the designhuis during dutch design week in eindhoven (october 17–25). once more a broad selection is made of 175 objects and installations from the 2009 graduates of 30 european design institutes and universities. and once more it becomes palpable just how vital and in perpetual movement the design discipline is in europe, its education so knowledgeable and creative.

Underlying themes in my work are transience, loss, memory and transformation. I make objects that explore the affective potential of silver; sometimes incorporating images which embed time, sometimes using archetypal jewellery forms to deny the image its place.

I use recognisable objects and materials, which may have a direct connection with each other, but I disturb the context in which they now find themselves; creating a poetic tension that asks the viewer to stop and look, and perhaps to see.
